For viewers of the film, here is a statutory WARNING:
More than half a century of quantifiable evidence, proves beyond all reasonable doubt that what has become popularly known as 'Multi-Level Marketing' is nothing more than an absurd, cultic, economic pseudo-science, and that the impressive-sounding made-up term 'MLM,' is, therefore, part of an extensive, thought-stopping, non-traditional jargon which has been developed, and constantly-repeated, by the instigators, and associates, of various, copy-cat, major, and minor, ongoing organised crime groups (hiding behind labyrinths of legally-registered corporate structures) to shut-down the critical, and evaluative, faculties of victims, and of casual observers, in order to perpetrate, and dissimulate, a series of blame-the-victim closed-market swindles or pyramid scams (dressed up as 'legitimate direct selling income opportunites'), and related advance-fee frauds (dressed up as 'legitimate training and motivation, self-betterment, programs, recruitment leads, lead generation systems,' etc.).

Opponents and whistle-blowers of any “blame the victim” racket such as Herbalife’s must first withstand the scheme’s most destructive force, which is greater even than its financial slaughter – manipulating the recruits into the debilitating belief that they themselves brought on their own failure and financial loss and that anyone who says otherwise is either misguided or bad-intentioned or both. Millions who are lured into Herbalife and then churned out and replaced after losing money are told to eschew the dreaded identity of victim, which might raise questions of calculated deception, their own vulnerability, or even lead to protests. Instead, they are persuaded to accept Herbalife’s own explanation that all who “fail” in the business do not try or their failure was only in not sufficiently trying. Such is the evil brilliance of the pyramid scheme when disguised as a “sales” business with commodity products serving as transfer currency, that everyone is or could have been a winner, while 100% who join each year actually lose.

Perhaps Braun should now do a more ambitious movie explaining what a cult is and how Herbalife is a cult disguised as a business?
ReplyDeleteWhat do ya think David?
Anonymous - On the evidence of 'Betting On Zero,' I don't think Ted Braun is the person to take on such an ambitious project by himself. That said 'Betting On Zero' is a valuable document which has brought, and will bring, wider-attention to the widely-misunderstood phenomenon of cultic racketeering.
